HCSB wanted to enter the Hill Country market in a big, Texan way. With the nearest existing branch situated 300 miles away, HCSB needed to make a statement to the market that they were there to stay, and were dedicated to becoming an integral part of the community. The expansion into Texas Hill Country appealed to the bank because of its highly affluent market base. Sixty percent of the population was retired, or had a second home in the area.
The bank selected a prominent site in Kerrville to establish a solid presence in the community. The site for the Kerrville Banking Center was previously the home of the Sands Motel, a community landmark located on the bank of the Guadalupe River. The leadership of HCSB wanted to capture the beauty of the site to further enhance the opportunities for the bank to immediately establish itself as an important pillar of the community.
The architecture of the Kerrville Banking Center, which represents a blend of the community's German heritage and Texas flair, presents a strong presence in the Hill Country landscape. Native limestone and long leaf pine board, salvaged from the Sands Motel, are key components to the design. Custom wrought iron fences displaying the Texas star also add a striking element to the setting.
The long leaf pine that served as the roof decking for the Sands Motel became one of the key features of the Kerrville Banking Center. The timber can be seen throughout the interior and in the drive-thru lanes. The entry way ceiling also presents an arresting presentation of this pine wood in an intricate lattice framework.
A wealth management area caters to the bank's target audience, and digital signage and artwork painted by community artists is displayed throughout the branch, sending messages of support to the local community. A community room with a private entrance is also housed in the facility for bank functions, meetings and local events.
The backyard is the showpiece. A patio and two pavilions reside on the countryside that tapers down to the Guadalupe River. This lush vista of the Hill Country provides the back drop for community gatherings, which includes everything from charity events to barbecues and weddings.
The banking center has become the social space HCSB desired, and has fostered involvement in the community, creating a solid base and strong ties to Kerrville, TX.
For HCSB's grand opening, which they deemed their "Coming Out Party," 1,600 people showed up. As Texas neighbors do, they greeted their guests with barbecue and music in their new shared setting.
HCSB's Wealth Management Services became so sought after in this market that the bank eventually had to build another service center to accommodate these operations exclusively. The community has embraced the new facility to such a degree that they have put it on the front cover of their phone book as a symbol of the Kerrville locality.
